Ten Rockingham County Destination Imagination Teams Headed to States

On Saturday, March 13th, 70 teams competed in the Northwest Virginia Destination Imagination Regional Tournament held at Spotswood High School. Competing in the tournament were teams from Warren County, Fauquier County, Winchester City, Rockingham County, Culpeper County, private schools, and independent teams.

Ten Rockingham County teams qualified to advance to the state tournament.

Destination Imagination is a community based, school friendly program that takes the ideas of creativity, problem solving and teamwork and packages them in a fun and meaningful program There are five challenges at three levels (elementary, middle, and secondary). The variety of challenges supports the idea of multiple intelligences and different learning styles. There is a noncompetitive challenge for K- 2.

The Virginia State Tournament consists of teams from cities, counties and home school students from through out the state. The students attending the state competition would have placed 1st or 2nd in their regional competition. Approximately 3,000 people, educators, parents, and students, will attend the state tournament on Saturday March 27, 2010 at Western Albemarle High School in Crozet, VA. Winners from the state tournament will advance to Global Finals held at the University of Tennessee.
